Water damage restoration in Round Rock

Ninety-eight percent of Round Rock drains to Brushy Creek. When 2 to 3 inches fall over two days, as on May 5 and 6 2025, the creek comes up fast and low-water crossings close across town; the city’s photos from that week show high water at Chisholm Trail Road and Memorial Park. If creek water got into your house, it is treated as Category 3, the same as sewage: porous material out, then disinfect, then dry.

Most Round Rock water calls are quieter. Half the city’s housing was built between 1990 and 2009, so those houses are 17 to 36 years old, when water heaters and supply lines start to go. Greater Round Rock West, west of I-35, predates the 1980s flood maps. Much of the rest, on both sides of the highway, went up in the 1990s and 2000s.

First visit: stop the source, extract standing water with industrial water extractors, take moisture readings in every wall the water touched, then set commercial dehumidifiers and air movers. Details on the Round Rock water damage cleanup page.

Mold remediation in Round Rock

Brushy Creek came up in late spring (May 2015, May 2025), midsummer (July 2025) and fall (October 2015), and the humid weeks after each one are when a house that was mopped up over a weekend turns into a mold call. Drywall, baseboard and the insulation inside a wall stay wet long after the surface looks dry.

Quick Dry Restoration is a Texas-licensed mold remediation company, TDLR license RCO 1589, and every job is led by a TDLR-licensed Mold Remediation Contractor. We start with a free on-site evaluation: moisture readings in the walls around the growth and a written, line-item estimate. For mold covering 25 contiguous square feet or more, Texas requires an independent licensed mold assessment consultant to write the protocol and do the clearance. We work from that plan, set containment and HEPA air scrubbers, remove the material, and dry the structure. Our Round Rock mold remediation guide covers the assessor, the state notice and the certificate; the service itself is on mold remediation.

Fire and smoke damage restoration in Round Rock

Round Rock’s storm story is a tornado. On March 21 2022 an EF-2 touched down just southwest of the I-35 and SH 45 interchange at 5:54 PM and ran 29 miles, through Windy Terrace, Greenlawn Place and South Creek and across the Kalahari property. The city counted more than 680 damaged homes. A tornado opens roofs and walls to rain; a house fire does the same from inside. First job either way: board-up and tarping, then smoke and soot removal, contents cleaning, and the rebuild. Round Rock Fire Department holds an ISO Class 1 rating, one of about 65 Texas cities with one. After the department leaves, what remains is hose water, soot and smell. See fire damage restoration.

Reconstruction after a loss in Round Rock

Permits for the rebuild come from the City of Round Rock Building Inspection Services Division, 301 W Bagdad Ave, Suite 100 (512-218-5550), and requests go through the online Permit Portal at permits.roundrocktexas.gov. The city is on the 2024 IRC, and repair or replacement of any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system needs a permit, which covers most water and fire losses. If the house sits on a Lake Creek or Brushy Creek floodplain lot, talk to the city’s Floodplain Administrator before the rebuild starts. For Round Rock’s 1990s and 2000s stock the scope is usually drywall, insulation, trim, flooring, cabinets and paint; our crew does that in-house after the drying is done. See reconstruction services.

Lake Creek flood risk and Dam 101

Lake Creek drains about 28 square miles, from Austin east into Round Rock, where it empties into Brushy Creek. Greater Round Rock West went up before FEMA mapped the creek; the 1980s floods got the maps drawn, and the neighborhood flooded again in 2010 during Tropical Storm Hermine and in 2015. More than 80 homes there, and every road that crosses the creek, sit in the 100-year floodplain. The fix is two dams upstream, and Dam 101 is the first of them: an earthen dam outside the city limits, north of SH 45 and south of RM 620, nearly a mile long and up to 40 feet high. It is designed to cut flood risk along about 5 miles of creek, through Round Rock West, past the I-35 frontage roads to Lake Creek Park, for more than 1,000 residents. It does not dry out a wall that got wet in 2015. If a room there has never smelled right since, that is a moisture-meter question, and the evaluation is free.

Neighborhoods we serve in Round Rock

Notes on where the water tends to come from, neighborhood by neighborhood:

  • Downtown Round Rock: south bank of Brushy Creek, east of the old Chisholm Trail crossing at the round rock; the N Lee St at Summit St low-water crossing is here
  • Round Rock West and Greater Round Rock West: west of I-35 on Lake Creek, homes older than the 1980s flood maps, 80-plus of them in the 100-year floodplain
  • Cat Hollow: west side, on Brushy Creek MUD water rather than city water
  • Brushy Creek Area: also Brushy Creek MUD, treated at the district’s Sam Bass Road plant
  • Forest Creek: east of I-35, off Gattis School Rd
  • Teravista: northeast, at the Georgetown line; took tennis-ball hail on April 22 2025
  • Paloma Lake: northeast; 1-inch hail at Paloma Lake Blvd and Diego Dr the same evening
  • Behrens Ranch and Walsh Ranch: northwest Round Rock
  • Stone Oak: northwest side, off FM 1431

Insurance claims for Round Rock property damage

We photograph the loss, log moisture readings room by room, and send the adjuster a written line-item estimate. Direct billing to the carrier is available. One Round Rock point worth knowing: rising water from Lake Creek or Brushy Creek is a flood loss, and a standard homeowners policy does not cover it; that takes a separate flood policy. A burst pipe or a failed appliance is usually a covered water loss. Tell us which one you have and we will document it that way from the first visit.

Round Rock restoration FAQs

Dam 101 is built. Is Round Rock West still in the floodplain?

Your lot’s status comes from the FEMA map, not the dam. The Williamson County Flood Insurance Rate Maps now in force took effect December 20, 2019, and the city’s Floodplain Administrator, Catalina Arboleda Gonzalez, P.E., CFM, is the person to ask whether your parcel’s designation has changed. The dam reduces risk along about 5 miles of Lake Creek. It does not change what is already inside a wall.

Do I need a city permit to repair water or fire damage in Round Rock?

If the repair touches electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing, yes. The City of Round Rock Building Inspection Services Division at 301 W Bagdad Ave issues permits through permits.roundrocktexas.gov, and inspections are requested through the same portal. We pull the permit as part of the reconstruction scope.

I live in Cat Hollow. Who is my water utility?

Brushy Creek MUD, not City of Round Rock Utilities. The district treats Lake Georgetown raw water plus its own wells at its Sam Bass Road plant, while most of the rest of the city is on City of Round Rock Utilities, which also draws mainly from Lake Georgetown. It matters when the leak is on the street side of the meter: that call goes to your utility. Everything from the meter into the house is ours.
