When to power wash your home or building

By Nicholas Cornwell -

If you’ve ever had your hands on a high PSI power washer, you know how much fun it can be.

Power washing your home or commercial premises is infinitely more satisfying! A thorough, professional power wash instantly boosts curb appeal, freshens up the exterior of your home, and clears away months—or years—of debris and build up.

But we’ve noticed a lot of our clients have questions when it comes to power washing their home or business: how often should I do it? When should I do it? Can

I do it myself? What equipment is best?

In our experience, every homeowner’s best bet is to call in a professional. We have the right equipment, and a deeper knowledge of how to power wash different building materials. Having your home professionally power washed means you may only need to do it once a year, too.

As for when to power wash your home or building, we’ve got all the information you need to make that decision, right here in this article.

The Ultimate Homeowners’ Guide: When to power wash your home or building

Consider your climate

If your winters bring harsh, cold temperatures, snow, and ice, you may want to power wash your home and buildings in the fall. This can help prepare your home for winter, and allow you to take stock of any issues with the exterior of your home before bad weather hits. This is particularly helpful if you live in an area prone to flooding or snow damage.

If you live in a humid, subtropical climate—like we do, here in Texas—you may not need to power wash in the fall. Because the climate here is so mild in winter, your ideal time for home cleaning could be spring. The risk in a humid climate is mold and mildew, so plan your power washing for a clear, warm day, when the weather forecast shows several warm days to follow. This way, your home has an excellent chance to dry thoroughly.

In general, choose a temperate, sunny day for pressure washing.

Consider Your Neighbors

Pressure washing can send a fine mist out around your neighbors’ homes. If their homes are in close proximity to yours, try to avoid booking your power wash for a time when they’re painting, entertaining outdoors, or repairing the exterior of their home.

Consider Your Plans

Many of our clients get a great satisfaction from having their home power washed before a big event—a backyard wedding, a family BBQ, or a working bee, for example. Likewise, if you’re putting your home on the market, hosting an open day, or preparing for auction, a one-off power wash could be what takes your home to the next level.

Conclusion

Now that you know how easy it is to get your home summer ready, you can make an informed choice. Book in with your local power washing professionals, or wait until the time is right for your area, climate, and social calendar!
